With the first pre-summer sunbeams tickling your face, sunglasses are a look transformer and definitely the T in your outfit planning.

What’s your personal favorite silhouette? Because when it comes to trends and micro trends for this season, we wouldn’t know where to start. From sport-inspired to retro-infused, dramatically oversized, to playful and eccentric geometric shapes… from all black to tortoise to colored to tinted lenses, the luxury designers made sure everyone finds their hero, or a new shape or hue to try. So let’s dive into them.

SPORTY SUNGLASSES

Active-inspired, with a touch of future (hello, metaverse!), both cool and edgy, sporty frames have gained popularity in the last few years, with the internet search for “futuristic sunglasses” going up 70%, and a glowing forecast towards becoming the sunglasses trend of the year.

Designed for any athleisure (and basically any outdoor activity), including running to shops, to your gym or having some quality time with your friends on your favorite terrace.

CAT-EYE SUNGLASSES

Probably the most timeless and the most revisited, the vintage-inspired cat-eye frames this season come in very sleek, refined lines.

Depending on your face, you can go for more angular, exaggerated and elongated or for a more subtle, rounded shape in order to either highlight or soften your cheekbones.

GEOMETRIC SUNGLASSES

Square, square-ish, rectangular, hexagon, octagon, rounded, oval… From timeless and iconic classics with a contemporary twist to present-day novelties, from teeny-tiny to oversized, there is a shape and size for every taste and vibe.

Chic, playful, fancy… you can play as safe or experiment as much as you feel like.

VISOR & SHIELD SUNGLASSES

From runway to sideway, you can spot them anywhere.

The Y2K trend is massive in general, so it only makes sense that the bold and statement-making mono-lens frames and shields (a craze back in 2000s) are one of the most popular shapes for SS23.

AVIATOR SUNGLASSES

Originally designed for pilots in the ‘30s, universally flattering and forever present shape. Some of the frames are more on a, let’s say, classic side, others come upgraded, with sophisticated modifications, chunkier lines or in square-ish shapes.

Experiment. Play with sizes, textures and colors. If you asked us, we would suggest an oversized acetate frame rendered in tortoiseshell with tinted lenses.

OVERSIZED SUNGLASSES

Go big or don’t go at all is another giant trend for SS23.

XL (and XXL) and chunky, a blend of modern and boho-revival vintage, these sunnies deliver a here-I-am visual punch (and are also great to have for the after-party activities if your busy agenda requests you to leave your sofa chilling time for later).

TINTED LENSES

The “new-retro” is not a recent trend but the sunglasses with tinted lenses are not going anywhere anytime soon.

Your style, your color of choice. Reds, yellows and oranges are amongst the most popular, but you can also opt for earthy hues, purples, greens or blues.

COLORED SUNGLASSES

If we should define this season’s overall trend, we would say “go for color, play with shapes”. And if we were asked a one color only question, it would be greens (followed by pinks, purples and yellows).

Again, you can go as bold and bright or as soft and pastel as you wish.

TORTOISE SUNGLASSES

Always a classic, always in new hues, tortoiseshell sunnies, remaining a go-to for many of us, are coming big this season too.

Want something stylish and versatile, something that will add texture to your look? Then tortoiseshell sunnies are your frame of choice.

BLACK SUNGLASSES

Last but most definitely not least: the blacks.

Flat, slim, small, oversized, in just about any imaginable shape. Classic but never basic, never boring. They have been here for ever but are ever-evolving in terms of shapes and accents.

As always, some TRIVIA FACTS you may not know:

The first-ever sunglasses were made from smoky quartz in China in the 12th century.

When it comes to the most expensive sunglasses worldwide, Chopard tops the list (followed by Dolce & Gabbana). Rendered in carat gold, featuring a total of 51 River diamonds. The value of the masterpiece rounds $400k.

How wide do you think are the biggest sunglasses ever made?

(Pause to think if you want).

The width of largest pair of sunnies, according to Guinness World Records, is 1.94 m!

And the largest collection of sunglasses, how many pairs would you say it consist of?

(…)

More than 2k! To be precise, 2,174. The owner’s plan was to enter the Guinness World Records book (one of the many things from her bucket list), sell the collection and donate the proceeds to charity.

Our edit features +700 pairs, hand-selected by our team of fashion buyers. Let us know if you found yours ❥
